Using your own laptop in the Lab
Any machine should be able to access the wired lab network via DHCP. Otherwise, there is wireless access available in the lab as well, if your MAC address is registered with the CS support.
Wireless Access in Trailer 935
Wireless internet access is availabe around the trailers provided by CS dept ('cstest'). Before using this wireless network, you have to register your wireless network card with cs support (support@cs.ucsb.edu). Generally, only those students that are doing research with faculty can have the wireless access. So, get permitssion from a professor (Matthew Turk or Tobias Höllerer) before writing to cs support.
Wireless Access in CNSI 2024 (FogLab)
Wireless internet access is available by our own wireless router in the FogLab, called 'plutonium'. It has MAC address filtering turned on, so first you need to add your laptop's MAC address to its access list. To do this, set your IP address to 192.168.1.2, subnet of 255.255.255.0, connect your laptop directly (with a cable) to the wireless router and open your web browser to 192.168.1.1. Username is 'admin' password is the usual lab password (if you don't know, ask). Go to wireless settings, setup access list, add, type in your name and MAC address, add and apply. Wait till it's updated, disconnect your laptop and set it to DHCP, and you should be able to connect. If you have any trouble, contact Stephen DiVerdi
